Another Don Pepin selección from the My Father Farms of Don Pepin, in a favorite style of mine; a Habano.

Unlike some other Pepin’s from this fine My Father Farms sampler, this one doesn’t initially shock you with a strong pepper. It does indeed have a pepper taste that resides quickly all around the mouth in the aftertaste, but it initially enlightens the mouth with a sweet citrus flavour. A nice smoked-meat taste also quickly hits the tongue. The aftertaste is sweet and juicy, very nice!

But wow, holding in the smoke or even daring to retrohale this and it will deliver the pepper onslaught Pepin is pretty well known for, right through the nose! The retrohale will deliver more tangy, citrus however, as well as more of a smokey taste, so it’s worth the risk!

The aroma is a great, rich habano tobacco quality that you can’t inhale too closely or too much due to the hot smoke and peppery nip. However, it too contains a sweet, citrus-like scent along with a dry cocoa powder sweetness.

I enjoyed this Habano, it has a more prominent sweetness to it than other Habano’s I enjoy. The pepper does tame down after a while, giving you more of the sweet, smoked meat taste. The aroma is all around excellent and contains a lot to discover even while idling at a distance. Hopefully there’s some good deals to find on this stick, I want more.
