There are wines that can be very specific for a certain occasion, tasting or pairing. Then there are table wines; adequate enough when consumed with food. Others demand full attention and a clean palette. Blackstone’s Merlot is a Merlot for all occasions, as I see it, but best enjoyed with full attention.

The wine is just simply well balanced yet full with flavour. It enters the mouth with a clean sweetness that quickly envelopes the mouth with a sweet grape-like flavor that’s not too bitter, tangy or … sweet. Once swallowed, a simple dry texture remains coated on the mouth, but the tongue continues in the indulgence of a sweet bouquet of flavor that deserves attention with its many layers of flavour. A very slight tang may tickle the back of the throat, possibly tongue, once this wine has breathed, but it’s far from obtrusive to the overall taste.

I detect no trace of pepper or spice in this, and so far, it’s been a favorite when shared with friends. It’s an easy find at most respectable liquor and wine shoppes, well priced at or near $11 a bottle, but well worth it. With a 13.5% alcohol content, it goes down very easily and typically won’t leave you Blackstoned even if enjoyed with full attention. I love it.
