Riebeek Cellars is a large volume winery in the Swartland near Malmesbury, South Africa. Founded in 1941 as a co-operative cellar it is now a private company owned by 60 farmers.

Ever since my trip to South Africa I always like to look out for affordable wines from there. I found this at Kreston’s for around $12, so why not!

The wine needed to breath, initially is was quite bitter and peppery. After letting the glass sit for a while from the initial tasting, it flourished into a nice sweet offering with only the slightest nip of pepper in the aftertaste. You can definitely taste the grapes but it wasn’t too powerful, but overall it was far from a dry texture.
