Named for its German inspiration. Brewed with large amounts of Munich malt, this dark beer is served through a nitrogen faucet for a creamy feel. 5.9% ABV
The first ale of the day on this weekend’s visit to Triumph Brewery in New Hope, PA was this german ale that us American’s find quite difficult to pronouse; I challenged our waitress for the correct annunciation, and good times ensued.
The beer, despite the complex consortium of consonants, was not very complex. It enters the mouth with a silky-smoothness that immediately hints at flat-beer territory, as the presence of any seltzer quality is far removed. A mild sweetness of malts is the main course, as overall this is a sweet brew. The sweetness remains in the aftertaste, but quickly dissipitates. There is a dry, alcoholic quality to it, but its subtle. Overall, not much else.
While far from a horrible brew, this by-the-numbers craft brew comes off very orderly in expectations; being enjoyable and predictable, it’s simply not memorable.
