One from the grab bag from Cigars International, I was thinking of purchasing a bundle of these. Glad I didn’t.
The taste is quite nippy at first puff with a mildly-hot woody smoke filling the mouth while a creamy sweet layer complements. However, a sourness exists with a bite that I don’t find appealing, so much so that it causes my face to squinch a little. A bitter, slightly sour and peppery aftertastes remains behind, soon afterwards a citrus taste pops up. Retrohaling brings out more of the sour woody taste, even some pear I think.
The aroma is quite enjoyable although the smoke is quite hot to the nose. The thick cloud carries a rich blend of cocoa powder, creamy caramel and a sweet tobacco. Some citrus like sweetness can also be found, hints of sugar, and just the right nip of pepper.
If it weren’t for the agreeable sourness in this cigar, I’d enjoy it, but that aspect of the taste isn’t settling good with me. I’m curious if 6 months in a humidor would tame that, I could see this aging to be a good tasting cigar.
