I’m still very new to organic red wines. They’re becoming more noticeable at the stores lately, I believe due to them drinkable by folks with allergic reactions to standard reds, and also alleviating the hangover-affect in the morning for some as well.
Whatever the case, I’m diving in. However, the start hasn’t been a good one. This organic blend took time to enjoy. A whole day in fact. I originally opened the bottle (with a re-screwable cap top, thankfully) and poured a glass and was initially hit with a very strong, poignant vinegar treat. I didn’t make it far into the glass until I gave up. The bottle had set opened for sometime before I capped it and placed it back into the wine fridge for something else.
Well, the next day, I decided to give it another go. Lo and behold, I had a wine and not a salad topping! It wasn’t highly flavorful, but at least it wasn’t medicine gone bad. It was fairly mild overall, mostly sweet but with some tang of the grapes still present and juice. It had a sweet aftertaste, though not overwhelmingly so.
While I’m not giving up on organic wines, I won’t purchase this again, but I need to keep in mind this trick about letting them breathe and sit once opened if this strong sourness ever happens again.
